Corral and store more than 400GB of data with the MountainGate Stampede. Simply hook up the bays and the data flows through one SCSI bus.

The Stampede lets you use any combination of 3.5- and 5.25-inch hard disks within one docking station. Available in capacities up to 9GB, the 5.25-inch disk can accommodate more than 63GB of data per SCSI address when used with a Logical Unit Translator (LUT) SCSI expander. You can use up to seven LUTs in a daisy chain for more than 400GB of data storage.

The Stampede hard disks are available in 1GB, 1.7GB, 2.1GB, 4.2GB and 9GB capacities with access times as fast as 8ms and transfer rates up to 20MBps. The drive modules also are hot swappable, so you can replace or switch hard disks without having to shut down. The Stampede comes with two-, four- or eight-bay desktop docking stations.

The Pinnacle Micro Apex 4.6GB is the result of Pinnacle Micro's quest to develop a removable optical drive that works as fast as a hard disk. The 5.25-inch rewritable optical drive transfers data at 6MBps. Utilizing a 4.6GB cartridge, an Apex drive provides storage at 37 cents per megabyte.

The Apex drive utilizes a Fast SCSI-2 interface with a synchronous sustained transfer rate of 4.5MBps and a synchronous-burst transfer rate of up to 10MBps. The Apex's average seek time is 17ms and it can read and write to 2.6GB ANSI standard optical media.

Its jukebox interface connection allows installation into existing optical libraries, increasing capacity. The Apex drives are available for all Windows versions, including Win95 and NT.

The Apex is available as an external or internal half-height drive. Additional 4.6GB disks cost $199 apiece or $895 for a five-pack.

Using wider and higher capacity Travan media, the Conner Tape-Stor 3200 holds 3.2GB of compressed data. The Tape-Stor 3200 achieves 1.6GB native and 3.2GB compressed capacity with Travan's TR-3 cartridge, and has up to 800MB native and 1.6GB compressed capacity with the TR-2.

The tape drive is also compatible with Sony's QIC-Wide tape QIC-3010 and QIC-3020 cartridges to achieve a 1.7GB compressed capacity. It also features backward read compatibility with Irwin AccuTrak-250, AccuTrak-120 and QIC-80 tape formats.
